It all started back in 2000 when we pitched an idea to FilmFour for a series on landmark directors and what made them tick. It was kind of like In The Psychiatristís Chair goes to the Movies. FilmFour decided to try out the formula on the outstanding Brit TV director Alan Clarke to tie-in with a season of his drama they were screening. Alan Clarke: His Own Man was made, screened and even reviewed in Time Out. However, the series never materialised, but 400Blows was born. Since then, short, personal, diaristic films (using Super 8 whenever possible) have been made side by side with the TV and feature docs.
